Oxymoron: The Loveliest Nightmare Announced!

Oxymoron: The Loveliest Nightmare the upcoming book written by Tyler James (The Red Ten) and John Lees (The Standard) and illustrated by me was announced as part of the second wave of ComixTribe books coming 2014 at New York Comic Con!

The following was written up for the announcement...

On the final day of the 2013 New York Comic Con independent comic book publisher, ComixTribe, announced OXYMORON: The Loveliest Nightmare, the fourth of four new titles to be released in 2014 revealed at the convention.

OXYMORON: The Loveliest Nightmare, a new series written by Tyler James (THE RED TEN, EPIC) & John Lees (The Standard, And Then Emily Was Gone) and illustrated by Alex Cormack (Two Redheads and a Dead Blond), will be a new take on THE RED TEN villain. Suffering from a chronic illness, and reeling from a demotion after her partner’s death, Detective Mary Clark finds herself on the trail of a serial killer obsessed with contradiction, who is painting a bloody canvass of carnage with the entrails of politicians and powerbrokers in Swanstown.

“While the Oxymoron has been a scene stealer in THE RED TEN, and the star of a successful hardcover anthology, I’m thrilled with the prospects of letting him cut loose in his own mini-series,” said James.

Co-Writer John Lees is also excited to get his hands on this character once again. “As far as I’m concerned, OXYMORON: THE LOVELIEST NIGHTMARE is the biggest comic project I’ve ever been part of. In THE RED TEN, Tyler James and Cesar Feliciano created an instantly iconic villain who has quickly built up a cult following, and it’s intimidating to now come in and try to add to that legacy. Tyler and I have a story worked out that is going to take readers to some dark, twisted places. Alex Cormack is an incredibly gifted artist who is going to make this one of the most horrifyingly gorgeous (an oxymoron!) books on the stands. If you liked the OXYMORON Volume 1 anthology, you’re going to love this, and you’re going to be horrified, too. Life’s full of contradictions!”

James says that OXYMORON: The Loveliest Nightmare will explore new territory for the character, “This will be a take on the Oxymoron that we haven’t seen before. Oxymoron: The Loveliest Nightmare is a cerebral serial killer police procedural in the vein of Hannibal or Seven. It’s the perfect jumping on point for new readers, especially fans of smart crime and horror,” he said.

Alex Cormack, who will illustrate this series, says the series is a welcomed opportunity to reunite with the Oxymoron character, “I’ve loved the character since I read the first issue of THE RED TEN, and drawing him in the Oxymoron Volume 1 anthology was a blast! It’s great to be working working with this psycho again!”

James seems enthusiastic about the dynamic of this creative team, “In the Oxymoron Volume 1 anthology, I worked with John Lees on the delightfully nasty short, Selfless Man. John has a great grasp of the character, and as he’s showing with star-making work on his horror series And Then Emily Was Gone (available for the first time in North America ONLY at the ComixTribe Booths #1170-1172 at New York Comic Con), he is right at home in this genre. Collaborating with him on this was a no-brainer.”

James went on to say, “Likewise, Alex Cormack draws one hell of a creepy Oxy, and his storytelling has grown leaps and bounds over the past few years. I’m thrilled to be working with Alex on this.”

OXYMORON: The Loveliest Nightmare will be a new mini-series debuting in 2014. A second OXYMORON anthology is also in the works for next year.

So keep an eye out for this psycho coming next year!

Cuddlers Announced at NYCC!

Cuddlers, the upcoming book written by Yannick Morin (whom I worked with in the Oxymoron Anthology) and illustrated by me, was announced as part of the second wave of ComixTribe books coming 2014 at New York Comic Con!

The following was written up for the announcement...

The Cat’s Out of the Bag
CUDDLERS, is a new series written by Yannick Morin and illustrated by Alex Cormack. When his hometown is struck by a mysterious disease that transforms its victims into cat-obsessed “cuddlers”, a young rebel teams up with a cast of unlikely allies to stop the plague before it spreads all over 1950s America. Combining what the Internet told us you already love – cats and zombies – this coming-of-age horror comedy will force you to laugh and scream throughout its three malodorous issues.

“Everyone thinks they have a new spin on the zombie genre. I usually laugh at them, and go back to reading Kirkman’s book ,” said ComixTribe publisher Tyler James. “But what Yannick and Alex are cooking up here actually is that brilliant, original twist, backed by crazy but true science… this book will knock readers for a loop.”

Where does an idea like this come from? According to CUDDLERS writer, Yannick Morin, the answer is wasting time on the internet.

“One day, I was browsing the web instead of working on a column, and I came across this article about Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite that’s found in cat droppings and that makes rats unafraid of their natural enemy. It actually makes them seek out cats to get eaten by them, and thus perpetuate the parasite’s lifecycle in a new kitty digestive tract. When humans get infected however, they just get sick. That’s pretty boring really, so I thought: “Hey, why not have the humans go cat-crazy as well?”

“After collaborating on “Nearly Perfect” for the Oxymoron anthology, Yannick and I wanted to work together again on a new project,” said series artist Alex Cormack. “I thought another horror story would be great, but my wife suggested we do a romantic comedy. So Yannick and I decided to put the two together and throw in a bunch of cats.”

For long-time comic editor Morin (Image Comics’ EPIC KILL), writing CUDDLERS has been a significant undertaking. “Every time I sit down to work on this thing, I’m haunted by all of the criticism I’ve formulated about other people’s writing, either as an editor or simply as a reader. As I damn should be. We should all be held accountable of the feedback we give others. CUDDLERS is a labor of love, yes, but it’s also me putting my money where my mouth is when it comes to storytelling,” he said of working on the series.

CUDDLERS will be a three-issue mini-series, debuting in mid-2014.

Scam's Pint Hammered

All right, so if you were lucky enough to be at NYCC this year, I hope you picked up ComixTribe's Scam Pint! If you didn't here's what you missed...

SCAM written and illustrated by Joe Mulvey is about superheroes who decide to take on Vegas instead of crime. Coming soon is the SCAMthology, an anthology featuring the characters of SCAM. For NYCC ComixTribe took three stories, each about the character Pint, who receives super powers the more he drinks, and put them in the above comic.

So, John Lees (the Standard, another ComixTribe book) wrote and I illustrated the story Hammered. Here's a preview...

So keep an eye out for the Kickstarter coming soon!

Indiana Jones and the King of Skull Island poster at MICE this weekend!

So a lot of things have been going on since the last post, but let's start with the new poster I made up,

King Kong vs. Indiana Jones or... Indiana Jones and the King of Skull Island! This came about a while ago when I was trying to think of a new mash up poster using Indiana Jones. I thought of a few ideas for a poster but it never really got further then that, until the other day I was in traffic and the above image popped in my head. So when I got home I drew it up and now here it is!

Along with all that I'll be at MICE (Massachusetts Independent Comic Expo) this weekend! The show is being held at 1815 Mass Ave Cambridge, MA Sept 28-29. More info can be found here!

The poster was made by Bob Flynn

So come on by this weekend!

Two Redheads and A Dead Blonde KickStarter!

"Two Redheads & A Dead Blonde" written by Lloyd Corricelli and illustrated by yours truly is now up on Kickstarter! (Here is the Link)

The Graphic novel is based on the first of the Ronan Marino Mystery Series from Sons of Liberty Publishing. The book is about, well, I'll let Lloyd take over here, there is a reason why he is a writer where I am the artist...

It is a hard-boiled detective noir story in the tradition or Parker's Spenser or Spillane's Mike Hammer. It features private detective Ronan Marino; the half Italian/half Irish (he often jokes that due to his ethnic makeup he likes to drink whiskey, write poetry then go out and break a few legs) son of a retired firefighter, nephew to an alleged Boston Mafia Don and combat veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. With a strong sense of honor and duty learned from his father and strengthened in the military, Ronan chooses to help those who have no other place to turn; using the catch phrase "the best that money can't buy.

A native of Lowell, Massachusetts (best known for author Jack Kerouac and boxer Mickey Ward of "The Fighter"), he graduated from Lowell High School and went on to UMass-Lowell, where he was the starting shortstop for the baseball team. After graduation, rather than chase a professional baseball career (you’re just too short the scouts told him!), he joined the U.S. Air Force, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to the Office of Special Investigations. After twelve years in the service, including multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and a bad marriage that left more scars than his time in the war zones, he had an amazing stroke of good luck.

Stopping for a cup of coffee one night while on an undercover job in Los Angeles, on a whim he played and won the biggest jackpot in the history of the California lottery. Leaving the military, he moved home where he planned on doing nothing more than pursuing his hobbies; like playing guitar in a pedestrian cover band and improving his vast collection of comic books. His retirement however was short lived after his new girlfriend is found dead in the cold waters of the Merrimack River. Using all the skills he learned in the military, Ronan uncovers her dark secret; one that powerful men on both sides of the law are desperate to remain hidden. Calling on his mob enforcer cousin for backup, Ronan dives headfirst into places where even angels fear to tread; committed to finding who took his girlfriend's life even at the cost of his own.

So my favorite of the rewards is that I'll put you in the book as either (and this is based on how much you toss in) a back ground character or a main character!

Here are a couple of drawings done up to give an idea of what things will look like...

Anyways this book is going to be good so toss in some bucks!

Hoax Hunters Pin Up!

I met Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley from Image Comic's Hoax Hunters up at Larry's Comics. We got to talking and they asked if I'd be interested in making up a pin up, and above was my answer!

The idea came about between the three of us, specifically something with the character Ken and Zombies. I thought it would make sense that since they are dead and that he is dead then they should get along, makes sense right? But he still has his friends to think of, and there my friend, lies drama!

Anyways look out for Hoax Hunters # 8 coming out in March and look for my pin up!
